I used Lipitor for a few months following my stroke, but it caused severe leg cramps. My RN wife recommended Red Yeast Rice, which I have taken for over 10 years without issues and with reduced cholesterol levels.
Red Yeast Rice effectively lowered my cholesterol by 30 points. Unlike statins, which cause me leg pain, I can avoid them by using this product combined with diet and exercise.
